This year the Grinch, aka, the enemy of our souls has conspired against us in many ways to rob us of our joy, to rob us of our peace, to tear us apart in ways I can't even talk about. Our hearts this day are heavy, our spirits are not exactly full of holiday cheer. You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch. Those things that normally bring us pleasure are tinged with sadness. Our hearts feel 10 sizes too small. The newspaper brings bad news. Even the Hallmark movies that I usually enjoy, make me cry, and not in a good way. If only we could have such a happy ending.
Well, Mr. Grinch, we may be down, but we are not out. It might please you, for the moment, to see our tears, and our sadness, and to think you've destroyed our spirits. You are probably thinking that you have brought us down to your level of despair and hopelessness. That our lives of trusting in God are over and that we will give up our hope in Him. If so, Mr. Grinch, you have forgotten already that the one you nailed to the Cross did not stay down. Neither will we, by God and his grace, by God and his mercy. You lose, Mr. Grinch! You will never have the ultimate victory! You won't even have temporary victory, although it may seem like it right now.
Our hearts will recover: they will be once again filled with joy, with laughter. We will once again
find pleasure in the little things in our lives. After all, our God lives!
"Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning." Ps. 30:5
"In the world you will have tribulation, but, be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" John 16:33
Don't bother looking for us, Mr. Grinch. We are dwelling in the Secret place of the Most High, and abiding in the shadow of the Almighty. We are saying of The Lord, "He is my refuge and my Fortress, my God in Him will I trust!"
See what I mean? You lose, Mr. Grinch. I don't know the future, but I know who holds the future, and it isn't you!
